Stubbs and Breetzke miracle act trumps Brevis century as SEC seal third SA20 title
A brilliant, unbeaten fifth-wicket stand between Tristan Stubbs and Matthew Breetzke helped Sunrisers Eastern Cape seal their third SA20 title, defeating Pretoria Capitals in the final on Sunday.
Having won the toss, captain Stubbs put the Capitals in to bat at Newlands, where they got off to a rocky start after being reduced to 1-2 in the second over with Connor Esterhuizen (0) and Shai Hope (1) dismissed early.
Dewald Brevis then pulled off a stunning individual effort, however, lifting Pretoria to a respectable score of 156-7 with a breathtaking knock of 101 off 56.
With little support from the other end, Brevis took on the brunt of the scoring through the middle before Marco Jansen (3-10) wrapped up the tail with ease.
Sunrisers' chase started in calamitous fashion, though, as Lungi Ngidi had Jonny Bairstow caught behind for a golden duck off the very first ball, with Quinton de Kock (18) following suit before the end of the powerplay.
Jordan Hermann (3) and James Coles (1) fell quickly thereafter, leaving SEC seemingly dead and buried at 48-4 before Breetzke (68 not out) and Stubbs (63 not out) got to work.
The duo stitched together a record-breaking 114-run unbeaten stand for the fifth wicket to keep SEC in the game, taking it down to the wire with 21 runs required from the last two overs.
Stubbs led from the front at the finish, slamming Bryce Parsons for back-to-back maximums to seal a six-wicket win and a third SA20 title in four seasons for SEC.

Data Debrief: Stubbs and Breetzke shine, Brevis century in vain
Breetzke and Stubbs's 114-run partnership was the highest-ever for the fifth wicket for Sunrisers Eastern Cape in T20s, breaking the record of 88 scored between Stubbs and James Coles earlier this season.
In all, Breetzke hit five fours and two sixes on his way to 68, while Stubbs smacked two fours and four sixes for his 63.
Brevis, meanwhile, was left empty-handed despite a sensational lone hand to drag Pretoria to a respectable score.
He scored his 101 runs off just 56 balls, striking eight fours and seven sixes at a strike-rate of 180.35.
