Jannik Sinner recorded one of his most dominant wins of the year at the Vienna Open on Wednesday, cruising past Daniel Altmaier to reach the last 16 in only 58 minutes.

Sinner triumphed 6-0 6-2 in the Austrian capital, showing no signs of concern after being forced to retire from his Shanghai Masters title defence due to cramps earlier this month.

The Italian, who won this event back in 2023, was in control from the off as he dictated points from the rear of the court, converting three of his four first-set break points.

Altmaier initially showed more resistance at the start of set two, but back-to-back breaks proved enough for Sinner to earn his 17th straight victory on indoor hard courts.

Sinner will be joined in the round of 16 by Medvedev, who beat Nuno Borges 6-4 6-7 (7-9) 6-2 to boost his late-season push for ATP Finals qualification.

Medvedev, who won the Vienna Open in 2022 before losing to Sinner in the following year's final, will face Corentin Moutet next, after the Frenchman beat Damir Dzumhur 6-3 6-0.

Data Debrief: Sinner races through

Sinner's win was his fastest on the ATP Tour this year, bettering his previous quickest victory, over Daniel Elahi Galan in Cincinnati, by a single minute.

The Italian is now 29-0 in ATP Tour first rounds since the 2023 Cincinnati Open, and he will take on his compatriot Flavio Cobolli in the next round.
