Shreyas stars to lead Punjab Kings to IPL final
Shreyas Iyer put in a captain's performance as he led Punjab Kings to a five-wicket win over Mumbai Indians to reach the Indian Premier League final on Sunday.
Punjab were stuttering in the chase before Shreyas stepped up to the crease, but he ensured they got over the line in the chase with six balls remaining.
The players were left waiting two hours to get the match under way after heavy rain, but did not have to play a reduced-overs game.
Mumbai made a nervy start, with Rohit Sharma dismissed for just eight in the third over by Marcus Stoinis (1-14).
Jonny Bairstow (38), Tilak Varma (44) and Suryakumar Yadav (44) then kept up a high-intensity approach before the latter pair were dismissed within two balls of each other at 142.
Hardik Pandya struck 15, with Naman Dhir plundering 37, including seven fours, but both were taken by Azmatullah Omarzai (2-43) to stall their hopes.
Raj Bawa (eight) helped Mumbai to 203-6, and they made a strong start on the attack, too, as Priyansh Arya (20) and Prabhsimran Singh (eight) were both dismissed in the power play.
That opened the door for Shreyas, who blew Mumbai away with his innings, plundering an unbeaten 87 in just 41 balls, including five fours and eight sixes.
Nehal Wadhera chipped in with 48 before Ashwani Kumar (2-55) sent him packing, but even as he left Punjab needing 48 off 26, Shreyas shrugged off the pressure.
The captain got four of his maximums in the 19th over, getting Punjab over the line with 207-5, to set up a meeting with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final on Tuesday.

Data Debrief: Leading by example
In their first Qualifier against RCB, Punjab struggled to show a threat with the bat, crumbling to 101 all out, with Iyer providing just two runs to that total.
It was a different story on Sunday, as he was the picture of calm, recording his 27th half-century in the competition.
This victory was also his 50th as a captain in the IPL, and it ensured Punjab reached just their second final, and the first since 2014.
On the other side, Yadav also wrote his name into the history books. He became the highest run-getter as a non-opener in a single edition of the IPL. He has scored 717 runs in 2025, overtaking AB de Villiers record of 687 from 2016.
