Sabally move was a 'no-brainer' for Tempo, says Brondello after career-best night
Bringing Nyara Sabally to the Toronto Tempo was a "no-brainer" for head coach Sandy Brondello, she declared after watching the center enjoy a career-best showing on Wednesday.
Sabally put up 29 points as the Tempo improved to 4-4 in their expansion season with a 111-104 victory over the Chicago Sky, also adding six rebounds.
The 26-year-old's previous best showing was a 16-point haul for the New York Liberty against the Phoenix Mercury last June, with a series of injuries hampering her throughout her first four seasons in the WNBA.
But, when Brondello joined the league's newest franchise last November after being let go by the Liberty, she always wanted Sabally to accompany her.
"We knew she had potential, and it was more about just her getting healthy," Brondello said after Thursday's win.
"Then, obviously, we had the opportunity to get her in expansion... it was a no-brainer for us. It's an opportunity to show everyone what she's capable of.
"For me, she put so much work into it, she's faced so much adversity. So, when great things like this happen, it's pretty special.
"And she's a very humble, humble, humble player, and I love that about her. She just wants to win, but it's great when good people show what they can do."

Sabally shot 11-of-14 from the field and 3-of-4 from behind the arc against Chicago, receiving support from Marina Mabrey (24 points) and Brittney Sykes (20).
"It's always fun, especially when you get to do it with a group like that, that celebrates your wins and just hypes you up all game," Sabally said.
"So, obviously, it means a lot, and especially with Sandy. She's put so much trust in me throughout my whole career. So, it just feels nice to do that."
The Tempo are back in action on Saturday against the Seattle Storm, with their .500 start to the season putting them fifth in the seven-team Eastern Conference.
