Gabby Williams scored 17 points, and the Golden State Valkyries played lock-down defence to beat the Atlanta Dream 67-62 in Saturday’s Game 4 to even the WNBA Finals at two games apiece.

The best-of-seven series moves back to California, where the Valkyries won Game 1, on Monday for Game 5.

After Angel Reese carried the Dream to victories in Games 2 and 3, she was frustrated by Golden’s State’s swarming defence, which held her to eight points on 2-of-12 shooting from the field. She also committed six turnovers. Reese had averaged 25.5 points in the previous two games.

The Valkyries forced 17 Atlanta turnovers and held the Dream to 33.3% shooting.

Golden State moved Tiffany Hayes into the starting lineup, and she scored all 13 of her points after half-time.

Veronica Burton had 13 points and five assists for the Valkyries, while Cecilia Zandalasini scored 10 off the bench. Kiah Stokes, who started at center opposite Reese, scored just four points but had 16 rebounds, including eight on the offensive end.

Golden State led 42-26 at half-time, but Atlanta opened the second half on a 9-2 run to tighten things up.

Reese hit a layup with 1:36 remaining to cut the Golden State lead to 64-59, but Atlanta missed four 3-pointers in the final 64 seconds as the rally came up short.

Rhyne Howard led the Dream with 19 points and eight rebounds.
