Luka Doncic believes the Los Angeles Lakers' "ceiling is even higher" after they beat the Golden State Warriors in their season opener.

The Lakers won 127-105 at Crypto.com Arena, with Doncic sitting out the fourth quarter as they cruised to victory on Wednesday.

In their first game since LeBron James left for the Philadelphia 76ers, Doncic led the way with 28 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals.

There were also valuable contributions from Walker Kessler (26 points, nine rebounds) and Austin Reaves (23 points, six assists), while Steph Curry's 23 points were the most of any Warriors player.

Golden State were one of six teams to lose their season opener by 20+; this is the first time in NBA history six different teams lost their openers by 20+ points in the same season.

And after inflicting that heavy defeat on their California rivals, Doncic feels the Lakers can still improve.

"It's a lot of honour to be the face of the franchise," Doncic said. "That's just the first game.

"I think our ceiling is even higher."

Doncic's half-court heave at the end of the second quarter proved too much to come back from for the Warriors, who also struggled to cope with the threat of Kessler.

Kessler made all 12 of his field-goal attempts; that's the most field goals without a miss by any player on his debut with a team in NBA history.

He became the first Lakers player to shoot 100% on at least 12 field-goal attempts since Wilt Chamberlain in 1969, and the first player in franchise history to convert 10 dunks in a game since Shaquille O'Neal in 2003.

"When I was driving, [Kessler] stepped up," Doncic said. "When I was doubled, he played in the pocket. Very impressive game from him."

"Contrary to my name, I run a lot," Kessler added.

"I'm extremely thankful for playing with the guys we have on our team. Their court vision is insane.

"They know my advantage is my height. They found me in the right spots."
