Sabalenka overcomes Muchova hoodoo to reach Brisbane final
Aryna Sabalenka booked her spot in the Brisbane International final after defeating Karolina Muchova in straight sets.
Sabalenka had lost her previous three meetings with Muchova, but she got the better of her counterpart this time around with a 6-3 6-4 win in 90 minutes.
The world number one broke in Muchova’s first service game, albeit at the fourth attempt, then later converted her third set point.
Muchova provided some threat in the second set but failed to convert any of her three break points as both players won their first four service games.
Sabalenka then broke Muchova in the ninth game, tough she needed four match points, while also saving a break point, to secure victory and her spot in the showpiece.
Marta Kostyuk will face Sabalenka in the final after she stunned world number six Jessica Pegula 6-0 6-3.
Pegula won just eight points in the first set as Kostyuk was close to flawless in the semi-final, with the Ukrainian also clinching the win with her first match point.
