Jon Rahm edged out Tyrrell Hatton by two shots to claim the Abu Dhabi Championship title on Sunday.

Rahm's triumph marks his first success since his exit from LIV Golf last month, while it is also his first win on the DP World Tour in four years.

The Spaniard, who was featuring at his first tournament since the birth of his fourth child and finished bottom of the leaderboard at the BMW Championship in his last appearance, carded a final-round 67 to finish on 23 under par.

Rahm dropped just one shot across his final round, which included six birdies, to finish ahead of Hatton, who went round in 68.

"It means a lot. It's been quite a while to play well on the DP World Tour," Rahm told Sky Sports.

"Except a shot on 17, as far as I'm concerned, I played a pretty flawless back nine. It was really solid, never in danger of making a bogey except that one hole.

"After everything that has gone on, some poor play and some battles mentally with a lot of noise, to come back out after a bit of a break and a new addition to the family, it's pretty special."

Rory McIlroy placed third on 19 under par, ahead of Francesco Laporta (-17).

McIlroy will go into next week's season-ending DP World Tour Championship sitting in second place in the Race to Dubai standings.

He is seeking an eighth win in the season-long competition, which would equal Colin Montgomerie's record.

Spain's Eugenio Chacarra sits top of the standings, but he feels McIlroy is the favourite.

"It is hard. He's the number two player in the world and the number one in Europe and he's been doing it for a long time," Chacarra said.

"He plays really good out in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. He has played that course a million times, and I only played it once.

"We are going to battle on next week. Obviously the odds are on him and he's the favourite, but we'll play golf.

"We know what I'm capable of when I am playing good. There was a lot of good this week, but I just need to sharpen the bat to have a chance next week."
