The short-handed Phoenix Suns were done in by a pair of scoring runs by the Miami Heat in a 111-102 loss on Sunday.

Playing without four-time All-Star Devin Booker and fellow guard Jalen Green due to injuries, Phoenix allowed Miami to go on a 16-2 run in the first quarter and trailed by 10 at half-time.

The Suns (27-19) kept it close and were down 91-83 with 8:20 remaining in the fourth, but Miami (25-22) scored the next 10 points of the game to seal their second straight victory following a stretch of six losses in nine contests.

Booker will be reevaluated in about one week after exiting Friday’s 110-103 loss to the Atlanta Hawks with a sprained ankle.

He leads the Suns with 25.4 points and 6.2 assists per game.

Green was also injured in Friday’s defeat, as he reaggravated a right hamstring injury that has caused the second overall pick of the 2021 NBA Draft to miss almost his entire first season with Phoenix.

The Suns acquired Green from Houston in July in the trade that sent Kevin Durant to the Rockets, but he’s only appeared in four games this season.

Friday was just Green’s second game back after missing 33 contests in a row.

Green started all 82 games with the Rockets last season and averaged 21 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists.

Warriors hand Timberwolves fifth straight loss

Stephen Curry moved up the NBA’s all-time scoring list as the Golden State Warriors dominated the second half of a 111-85 win that sent the Minnesota Timberwolves to their fifth consecutive defeat.

Curry scored 26 to pass John Havlicek and move into a tie with Paul Pierce for 19th place on the all-time scoring list with 26,397 points. Tim Duncan (26,496) is next on the list.

Golden State (26-21) outscored Minnesota 64-39 over the final two quarters to pick up their 13th win in 19 contests and pull within 2 ½ games of the first-place Los Angeles Lakers (27-17) in the Pacific Division.

The Warriors also moved 1 ½ games behind Minnesota (27-19) for seventh place in the Western Conference after handing the Timberwolves their worst loss of the season.

Minnesota’s five-game losing streak is their longest since a six-game slide in December 2022.

Anthony Edwards (32) and Donte DiVincenzo (22) combined for 54 of the Timberwolves’ 85 points, Minnesota’s fewest since a 104-84 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on November 5, 2021.

Surging Raptors beat NBA-leading Thunder

The Toronto Raptors climbed into third place in the Eastern Conference with a 103-101 victory over the NBA-best Oklahoma City Thunder.

Toronto (29-19) won the last four contests of a five-game road trip and jumped one-half game ahead of the New York Knicks (27-18) in the East.

The Raptors and Knicks, who will meet in Toronto on Wednesday, are both right behind the first-place Boston Celtics (28-17) in the Atlantic Division.

Immanuel Quickley had 23 points and a season-high 11 rebounds to help the Raptors win for the 11th time in 16 games.

The Thunder (37-10) got 24 points from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in their second straight defeat at home after winning 20 of their first 22 games in Oklahoma City.
