NBA: Knee injury to sideline Hawks star Young for at least a month
Atlanta Hawks star guard Trae Young has a sprained right MCL and is likely to miss at least a month, according to sources.
Young underwent an MRI on Friday, and multiple doctor reviews showed that he avoided major structural damage to his knee. He will be re-evaluated in four weeks.
Young suffered the injury in a 117-112 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Friday during a collision with teammate Mouhamed Gueye. Gueye fell backward after contact on the baseline and directly into Young's right knee. Young's knee bent in the wrong direction, and he fell to the floor, clutching his knee in pain.
Young’s absence leaves a huge void for the Hawks, who have split their first six games this season. He has led Atlanta in scoring in each season since his 2018-19 rookie campaign and averaged 24.2 points and a league-best 11.6 assists per game last season while shooting 34 percent on 3-pointers.
The Hawks hope to take a step forward in 2025-26 following an impressive offseason during which they added Kristaps Porzingis, Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Luke Kennard.
Young is averaging 17.8 points and 7.8 assists this season.
