Mitchell’s 45 help Cavs extend win streak

Donovan Mitchell scored 26 of his 45 points in the first half, Evan Mobley added 20 points and nine rebounds, and the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Orlando Magic 114-98 on Monday to extend their winning streak to four games.

Mitchell shot 15 of 25 from the field and 5 for 8 from 3-point range on his way to his fifth 40-point game of the season.

Mitchell is averaging 29.1 points per game this season, on pace for a career high, as he’s attempting a career-best 6.1 free throws per game.

Monday’s win gave the Cavs (28-20) a sweep in their home-and-home series against the Magic, following Saturday's 119-105 win in Orlando.

The Cavaliers’ four-game winning streak ties a season-long, and Cleveland is 11-4 in its last 15 games after starting the season 17-16. With their current hot streak, the Cavs have climbed to fifth in the Eastern Conference and just two games back of the Boston Celtics.

Paolo Banchero had 37 points and 10 rebounds for the Magic, who shot 40.4% from the field.

Orlando (23-22) is on a four-game losing streak and has been outscored by an average of 18.5 points during the slide.

 

Dončić stars as Lakers cool Bulls

Luka Dončić dazzled with 46 points, seven rebounds and 11 assists, Rui Hachimura provided some hot shooting off the bench, and the Los Angeles Lakers snapped the Chicago Bulls’ four-game winning streak by beating them 129-118.

Dončić needed only 25 field goal attempts to get to 46 points, making eight 3-pointers and eight free throws in his highest-scoring game since October.

Hachimura shot 9 of 11 from the field and made four 3-pointers to finish with 23 points off the bench, and LeBron James scored his 20th point midway through the second quarter but cooled off to finish with 24.

The Lakers (28-17) have won four of their last five games and improved to 3-1 on their current road trip, with four more games to go.  

Coby White had 23 points and six assists to lead the Bulls, who fell to 23-23.

Ayo Dosunmu scored 20 points off the bench, while Josh Giddey finished with 19 points, six rebounds and seven assists in a reserve role.

 

Durant, Sengun pace Rockets over Grizzlies

Keven Durant and Alperen Şengün each scored 33 points, and the Houston Rockets pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat the Memphis Grizzlies 108-99.

Durant was 11 for 24 from the field and added eight rebounds as he logged his third consecutive 30-point game.

Şengün was a stunning 15 of 17 from the field, adding nine rebounds and six assists. Amen Thompson also stuffed the stat sheet, finishing with eight points, eight rebounds and 14 assists.

Houston (28-16) has won five of its last six games amid a tight battle for playoff positioning in the Western Conference.

Jaren Jackson Jr. and Santi Aldama had 17 points and seven rebounds for the Grizzlies (18-26), who lost their third straight game.
