Liverpool 2-0 Brighton: Isak on target again as Iraola ends wait for home league win
Alexander Isak scored for the third Premier League game running as Liverpool snapped Brighton's brilliant form with a 2-0 win at Anfield.
Brighton went into Sunday's contest flying high in third place after a run of four straight league wins, which came by an aggregate score of 15-0.
Yet the Seagulls had their wings clipped as Liverpool raced into a 2-0 lead by the 21st minute.
Matters might have been much different had Yasin Ayari put away an early chance for the visitors, but the Sweden international sliced over a gaping goal.
Brighton were swiftly punished, with Florian Wirtz's wayward effort diverting in off the unfortunate Pascal Gross.
Isak then continued his fine form as he nudged in from Bradley Barcola's cross. The former Newcastle United striker has netted in three straight league games for the first time since January 2025, when he went on a run of eight matches with a goal.

Ayari struck the woodwork following a bad error from Alisson Becker, but Brighton's attack was blunted after the break.
Maxim De Cuyper had their best chance, but found his path to goal blocked by substitute Trey Nyoni, who had just replaced the injured Wirtz.
Liverpool's day almost got better when Luka Vuskovic thumped an overhit backpass towards his own goal, but Bart Verbruggen was on hand to spare his blushes and minimise the damage for Fabian Hurzeler's team.
Setback for the Seagulls as Iraola gets up and running at home
Brighton have arguably been the standout team so far this season in the Premier League, but despite their four straight clean sheets, they had been giving up chances.
Indeed, their 5.16 overperformance of goals conceded compared to their expected goals against figure prior to this weekend's matches was the biggest in the division.
So, something perhaps had to give sooner rather than later, and Liverpool had the attacking talent to take advantage.
Liverpool had nine shots in the first half, but got four of them on target, and their work paid off to put them in a commanding position, even if they did get fortunate that Ayari did not have his shooting boots on.
The Reds are unbeaten in all 127 of their Premier League home games when leading by 2+ goals at half-time (W124 D3), and in truth they never looked likely to let this lead slip, albeit Nyoni's vital challenge on De Cuyper helped Liverpool stave off the nerves.
This was Iraola's first league win at Anfield as Liverpool boss, and it ensured the Reds did not fail to win each of their opening four home matches of a league campaign for only the fourth time, after 1894-95, 1911-12, and 2012-13.
