Evanilson's stunning second-half strike capped a memorable 3-0 Premier League win for Bournemouth at Manchester United to pile even more pressure on Michael Carrick.

Rayan and Marcus Tavernier scored in five first-half minutes to put United – who left captain Bruno Fernandes on the bench – on the back foot, leading to boos from the Old Trafford crowd at half-time.

Evanilson then had a goal disallowed from the restart, but he got his goal later on, rounding Senne Lammens to finish into an unguarded net and extend United's winless run to eight games in all competitions.

Bournemouth started on the front foot without testing Lammens, as Rayan and Evanilson both sent headers wide either side of Diogo Dalot blazing over the bar at the other end.

Ayden Heaven threw himself into a dangerous tackle – luckily without making contact on Evanilson – to give away a free-kick, which led to Bournemouth's 38th-minute opener.

Justin Kluivert whipped his right-sided set-piece into the far post, and Rayan was completely unmarked to drill it past Lammens into the bottom-right corner to end his nine-game goal drought in the league.

Bryan Mbeumo was denied by Djordje Petrovic as United sought an equaliser, and Bournemouth doubled their lead in the 43rd minute. Adrien Truffert profited from an untimely Leny Yoro slip to tee up Tavernier to tap into an empty net.

Things almost got even worse 21 seconds after the break when a loose Harry Maguire pass was cut out by Tavernier on the edge of the box, but Evanilson was offside when he slotted in.

United tried to make their possession count in the second half, but Mbeumo fired just over on the turn before Lisandro Martinez's low fizzer was comfortably held by Petrovic.

But Bournemouth still remained a threat on the break, as they proved in the 71st minute. Lewis Cook went long, and Lammens was not quick enough to get there before Evanilson, who curled a stunning effort into the far side of the gaping goal from the right wing.

Andrey Santos saw a header blocked on the line, while Mason Mount had a tame shot saved in stoppage time as Bournemouth easily held out for a clean sheet.

Bournemouth pick up more momentum against stumbling United

After Fernandes seemingly criticised Carrick's tactics in midweek, he was named on the bench for a Premier League game for only the sixth time, and the first since May 2025 against Brentford.

In fact, it is the first time Carrick has not named the club captain in his starting line-up in the top-flight since he got the caretaker job in January (this is his 27th such game in charge).

It was a must-win game for United, who remain with just one league victory to their name this term (D4 L3), and they have triumphed in just one of their last 11 outings without Fernandes in the starting line-up (D3 L7).

Nothing should take away from Bournemouth's performance, though, as they became just the third side to score 2+ goals in four consecutive Premier League away games against United, after Manchester City (2011-12 - 2014-15) and Brighton (2022-23 - 2025-26).

Rayan's first top-flight goal of the season opened the scoring, and he led the team throughout, having five of Bournemouth's 10 shots, and it paid off as he got his first league goal of the season.

Bournemouth look to be hitting their stride after three straight wins, while United cannot escape the spotlight, having failed to take any of their 17 chances.
