Hull City maintained their unbeaten Premier League home record for 2026-27 despite being pegged back in a 1-1 draw with Brentford on Saturday.

Dango Ouattara netted the equaliser midway through the second half for the Bees, cancelling out Oliver McBurnie’s 24th-minute penalty.

Brentford almost raced into a lead inside 54 seconds, but Sepp van den Berg’s close-range header was denied by Konstantinos Tzolakis.

Minutes later, Van den Berg almost converted into his own net but was thankful to see the ball fly over his own crossbar.

It was the Tigers who took the lead in the 24th minute with McBurnie converting a penalty into the bottom-right corner, after Aaron Hickey brought down Tim Iroegbunam inside the box, following a poor pass from Caoimhin Kelleher.

Brentford should have got themselves level before the break, but Kevin Schade’s strike was inadvertently blocked by his team-mate Igor Thiago six yards out.

The visitors were thwarted by Tzolakis once again after the break with the Hull goalkeeper blocking Van den Berg’s latest header, but there was nothing he could do about Brentford’s 63rd minute leveller.

Moments after coming on, Jaidon Anthony floated a left-wing centre into the box with Ryan Giles failing to clear the danger. That allowed Thiago to set up Ouattara, who duly slotted home.

Anthony almost put his side ahead minutes later, but the winger fizzed an effort wide of the upright before Joe Gelhardt failed to connect with Mohamed-Ali Cho’s low cross from six yards.

Tigers' den a tough place to go

Coming into the game, Brentford boss Keith Andrews stressed that Hull deserved to belong in the Premier League, and that assessment was proven correct.

The Tigers started the contest brightly and deservedly went ahead thanks to McBurnie’s penalty.

Brentford were fortunate not to concede a further two spot-kicks with Regan Slater and Mohamed Belloumi going down inside the box after challenges from Van den Berg and Mamadou Sangare, but referee Robert Jones waved those appeals away.

Hull registered an expected goals (xG) figure of 1.84 from 12 shots, but they have now failed to win their last six games in the Premier League, with their last longer such streak coming between November 2016 and January 2017, a run of nine games. However, Hull have lost just one of their six home league games against Brentford (W4 D1) this century, after losing four of their prior five.

Meanwhile, after a poor first half, Brentford improved after the break, finishing the contest with a slightly lower xG total of 1.81, from 14 attempts.

The Bees have now failed to win their last three Premier League games, and their winless record in Yorkshire continues. Brentford have now failed to win in six attempts in the county, with their last away top-flight win registered in May 1947, a 2-1 triumph over Leeds United.

This was also the first time this season Brentford conceded first in a Premier League game, becoming the 20th and final team to suffer that fate.
