Nick Kyrgios will miss Wimbledon for a third successive season after suffering another setback in his recovery from a knee injury.

A series of injuries have limited Kyrgios to one grand slam appearance since the end of 2022, having lost to Jacob Fearnley in the first round of this year's Australian Open.

The 30-year-old appeared at the Miami Open in March and beat Mackenzie McDonald for his first singles victory in two years, but a knee issue then forced him to skip the French Open, where he was due to play doubles alongside Jordan Thompson.

He had hoped to return in time for the grass swing but has now admitted defeat in his bid to make Wimbledon – where he made the final on his last appearance in 2022.

"I just wanted to give everyone a quick update. I've hit a small setback in my recovery and unfortunately won't make it back for grass season this year," he wrote on Instagram on Tuesday.

"I know how much you've all been looking forward to seeing me out there and I'm genuinely sorry to disappoint.

"This is just a bump in the road though, and I'm already working hard to get back stronger than ever. Thank you for all your continued support – it means everything to me."

Kyrgios lost in four sets to Novak Djokovic in the 2022 Wimbledon showpiece, having taken the opening set.

This year's tournament at SW19 starts on June 30 and finishes on July 13.
