Sinner reaches Madrid Open final after downing in-form Fils
Jannik Sinner extended his winning streak to 22 matches after defeating Arthur Fils to reach the Madrid Open final.
The world number one secured a 6-2 6-4 win in an hour and 27 minutes, and will face either Alexander Zverev or Alexander Blockx in the showpiece.
Fils held serve in the opening game of the semi-final, only for Sinner to win the next five games after converting two of a possible three break points.
The Frenchman, who entered this tie on a nine-match winning run after winning in Barcelona last month, lost the first set and saved two break points early in the second.
Sinner was relentless in the Spanish capital, though, conceding zero break points and winning 88% of his first-serve points as he gave little for Fils to work with.
The Italian made the crucial break in the ninth game of the second set, before clinching victory with his first match point.
350 - Jannik Sinner has claimed a 350th career match win at ATP level – since the inaugural ATP Tour season in 1990, only Rafael Nadal (429) has achieved the feat in fewer matches than Sinner (438). Milestone.#MMOPEN | @MutuaMadridOpen @atptour pic.twitter.com/YGrlOCPZYi

Data Debrief: Sinner hits another major landmark
Sinner has claimed a 350th career match win at ATP level – since the inaugural ATP Tour season in 1990, only Rafael Nadal (429) has achieved the feat in fewer matches than Sinner (438).
Since the event's inauguration in 2002, Sinner is the second top seed to reach the final at the Madrid Open after conceding his opening set at the event, after Carlos Alcaraz (2023).
And since 1990, Sinner is now the fourth player to reach the final at nine ATP Masters 1000 events after Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic – Sinner (41) has achieved the feat in the fewest main draws.
