"It's about taking the right options in the given situation," said India captain Shubman Gill, reflecting on his leadership approach after sealing his first Test series win as captain with a 2-0 triumph over West Indies.

Gill, who has now led India in seven matches in the format, ensured that India protected their lengthy unbeaten Test run in Delhi, having not lost at the venue since 1987 against West Indies.

India, who reached their 58-run target in just over an hour on Tuesday, have now recorded 10 consecutive Test series victories over the Windies, a streak that began in 2002.

The run equals South Africa's record for the most successive series wins against a single opponent — the Proteas also boast a 10-0 record against West Indies dating back to 1998.

The hosts' seven-wicket win also confirmed their 27th unbeaten Test against the West Indies — their longest such streak against any team. The last time India lost a Test to the Caribbean side was back in 2002.

"I try to make the most probable decision in the given situation that we are in," Gill explained.

"Sometimes you have to take some bold decisions, that X-factor depending on which player can get you certain runs or get you those wickets.

"We were around 300 runs ahead and the wicket was quite dead, and we thought even if we scored 500 runs, we had to get six or seven wickets on day five — it would be a tough day for us."

Ravindra Jadeja was instrumental in India's series win, taking 12 wickets. After being named Player of the Series, Jadeja said: "We've been doing wonderful work as a team.

"We know what brand of cricket we have been playing for the last five-six months, so it’s a good sign that we continue to do it for a long period of time."
