IPL: RCB stifle Mumbai's chase to get back to winning ways
Phil Salt helped get the Royal Challengers Bengaluru back to winning ways and dealt the Mumbai Indians a third straight loss in the Indian Premier League.
In a mammoth contest at Wankhede Stadium, RCB held off Sherfane Rutherford's late charge to win by 18 runs as they successfully defended 240-4.
RCB raced into a 120-0 lead by the 11th over, as Salt (78) and Virat Kohli (50) combined before the former was caught by Hardik Pandya, who dismissed the latter shortly after.
Rajat Pandya's 53 off 20 balls kept them in the hunt, with Tim David's unbeaten 34 propelling them to a daunting target.
Mumbai made a strong start, but it soon came crashing down as Rohit Sharma retired on 19 with a hamstring injury before Ryan Rickelton's stand was halted at 37 by Suyash Sharma (2-47).
While Suryakumar Yadav (33) and Hardik Pandya (40) kept the Indians in the fight, it was Rutherford – brought in as the impact player – who showed the biggest threat with an unbeaten 71, but it was not enough, as Mumbai fell just short in the chase at 222-5.

Data Debrief: RCB go big at Wankhede
RCB's 240 was a daunting target, and it marked the highest IPL total scored by a team at Wankhede, beating their own previous record of 235-1 back in 2015.
They started strong, with Kohli's flicked six off Trent Boult the fifth first-over maximum he has hit in T20s since 2024. Before that, he only had seven across his career.
But it was also a day to forget for Mumbai's Jasprit Bumrah (35-0), who has now gone five straight IPL matches without a wicket.
