Rajasthan Royals' perfect start to the 2026 Indian Premier League season came to an end after they lost by 57 runs to Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Sunrisers debutants Sakib Hussain (4-24) and Praful Hinge (4-34) led the way with the ball, dismissing the Royals for 159 in their chase of 217.

The Sunrisers were off to a shaky start when Abhishek Sharma was dismissed with the first ball of the match by Jofra Archer (2-37), but captain Ishan Kishan (91 off 44) came in and steadied the ship.

Heinrich Klaasen (40 off 26) and Salil Arora (24 not out) fired the hosts to 216-6, and Rajasthan's reply was all but over in the first over when Praful removed 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi (0), Dhruv Jurel (0) and Lhuan-dre Pretorius (0).

The wickets continued to tumble as Hussain got the better of Yashasvi Jaiswal (1) before Praful came back to dismiss Riyan Parag (4), leaving the Royals 9-5 after three overs in the chase.

Donovan Ferreira (69 off 44) and Ravindra Jadeja (45 off 32) put together a 118-run partnership, but Hussain rattled through the lower order to seal Sunrisers' second win of the season.

Data Debrief: Praful and Hussein silence the doubters

The Sunrisers were seen as underdogs heading into this fixture due to the lack of experience in their bowling attack, though it proved to be the key to their success in the end.

Praful became the first bowler in IPL history to take three wickets in the first over of an innings, while he is also the first player to take three wickets in their first-ever over in the competition.

Hussein, meanwhile, recorded the fourth-best figures on IPL debut after Alzarri Joseph in 2019 (6-12), Andrew Tye in 2017 (5-17) and Shoaib Akhtar in 2008 (4-11).
