Manav Suthar rounded out with 6-55 to complete a 10-wicket haul as India defeated Sri Lanka by 165 runs in Galle.

India took the lead in the two-Test series in convincing fashion, with Suthar starring with the ball in the second innings.

The spinner snagged four wickets in the space of 10 deliveries to rattle through Sri Lanka's tail and seal victory for the tourists.

India went into day five needing six wickets to win, with Sri Lanka's batters only realistically able to aim for seeing out a draw.

Sonal Dinusha offered the most resistance for the hosts, reaching 184 before he was dismissed by Suthar, after Dhananjaya de Silva (56) and Niroshan Dickwella (10) having already been sent packing.

Suthar's dismissal of Dinusha started his flurry of wickets. He was on a hat-trick when he bowled out Prabath Jayasuriya, though Lahiru Kumara survived four balls before edging to Rishabh Pant for a duck.

India's win was capped off when Keshara Nuwantha (20) saw his wickets scattered by Suthar, as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 284.

Suthar the star of the show

It is now two Tests, two five-fors for Suthar, as he finished with overall figures of 10-131.

The 24-year-old has already collected 17 wickets across his two appearances for India in the longest format, at an average of 11.35 across his four innings.

India seemed content enough to just chip away at Sri Lanka initially, with the tourists knowing they would soon get their hands on the new ball.

But Suthar's stunning show ensured there would be no need for them to wait that long, as he did the damage with the old ball in the 76th and 78th overs.

"He has been bowling magnificently," India captain Shubman Gill said of Suthar. "Looks like a very promising guy and someone who can play for India for a long time."

India have won each of their last two bilateral men's Test series in Sri Lanka, having won only one such series in the history of the format prior to this run. The worst they can do now is draw this series.
