Kelsey Mitchell's "insane" performances en route to setting a new single-season WNBA scoring record have not got the recognition they deserve, says her Indiana Fever team-mate Caitlin Clark. 

The Fever beat the Toronto Tempo 103-85 on Friday, bolstering their hopes of climbing as high as the third seed with just three regular-season games remaining.

Mitchell led the way with 33 points for Indiana, as she made a piece of league history.

With a successful 3-pointer in the third quarter, Mitchell surpassed the record 1,021 points that A'ja Wilson scored for the Las Vegas Aces in 2024.

Now with 1,034 points for the 2026 season, Mitchell has scored at least 20 in 25 consecutive games, which is also a WNBA record.

Mitchell was 12-of-17 shooting on another brilliantly efficient outing, and she was greeted with falling confetti and a surprise party when she returned to the locker room.

Clark had 28 points and 14 assists, marking the 10th time this season she has scored 25 or more points and had 10 or more assists – more often than any other player in WNBA history has managed that feat in their careers. 

But the moment belonged to Mitchell, as Clark said: "I don't think people realise what she's done this year and how insane it's been.

"It's probably not talked about enough, especially in my opinion. At the clip Kels is scoring at, the efficiency... it's ridiculous. I've never seen anything like it. 

"She makes my job really easy, and I find myself sometimes just laughing out there. I throw her the ball and can be like, 'Just do your thing.'"

Coach Stephenie White echoed those sentiments, highlighting the understated way in which Mitchell goes about her business.

She said: "The efficiency Kelsey has had, the way that she does it... often, it's so quiet that you don't really see it until after the game, and you're like, 'Holy cow, she had 33 on 12-of-17 shooting!'

"She's playing at another level, and it's been really incredible to witness. I hope that we don't take it for granted. What we're witnessing is some unprecedented stuff."

Mitchell will look to tack on further points to her record haul when the Fever face the Washington Mystics on Sunday, with their remaining games pitting them against the Minnesota Lynx in a home-and-away double.
