'Greedy' Wembanyama left wanting more after 40-point haul for Spurs
Victor Wembanyama revelled in his "greedy" display against the Los Angeles Lakers, but said he wanted to score more points in the San Antonio Spurs' 136-108 victory.
Wembanyama totalled 40 points in just 26 minutes against a Lakers side who were without LeBron James, Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.
Indeed, it marked just the fifth instance in the shot clock era (since 1954-55) that a player scored at least 40 points in 26 or fewer minutes.
The Frenchman also grabbed 12 rebounds, joining Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing as the only players in NBA history to record a 40-point double-double in that few minutes.
It was a result that saw San Antonio improve to 37-16 and register their 10th win in their last 13 games, but Wembanyama was left wanting more.
"I was also pushing to go back, but I mean, they did the right thing by keeping me on the bench," Wembanyama said. "We have got to think long term.
"But yeah, these kinds of games, you have got to have greed. I mean, every game you have to have this greed to want more every time,
"Because you know at all times it doesn't matter who's on the court, it's somebody who's going to want to stop you from doing what you do out there.
"So you have got to be greedy."

Carter Bryant also scored a career-high 16 points and Dylan Harper had 15 for the Spurs, but the day belonged to Wembanyama.
He ensured that the Spurs took control from the start, scoring 25 points on 8-of-9 shooting before coming out for the first time with just over four minutes left in the first quarter.
It was the third highest-scoring quarter in franchise history, trailing only Hall of Famers George Gervin (33) and David Robinson (28).
"What got me going was just honestly proving myself a point, proving my team a point," added Wembanyama, who finished 13-of-20 from the field.
"I'm not worried about us, not worried about myself against good teams, but history has shown that I need to be worried about myself against teams like this.
"So yeah, I mean, we don't just talk about what we need to do. We need to actually act."
San Antonio are second in the Western Conference and face the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday.
Wembanyama added that he could have beaten his career-high total of 50 points had he not sat out the final quarter, but he remained focused on taking on the Warriors.
"But I also know we have got to be fresh for tomorrow," said Wembanyama. "We have got to make another statement tomorrow.
"So it's a team game at the end of the day. The real stat that matters is the W or the L."
