Coco Gauff and Mirra Andreeva both claimed straight-sets wins over their first-round opponents at Roland-Garros.

Gauff, who reached the French Open semi-finals last season and was runner-up in 2022, had little trouble in dispatching Olivia Gadecki.

The American triumphed 6-2 6-2 in just over 80 minutes to ease into round two.

Earlier on Tuesday, teenage sensation Andreeva swatted aside Cristina Bucsa, though she did have to bounce back from a poor start.

Andreeva found herself a double-break down at 0-3, but rallied in sensational fashion to win 6-4 6-3.

The 18-year-old won eight straight games to go from 0-3 down in the opener to 1-0 up in the second set, going on to secure the victory with her first match point.

At the other end of the age spectrum, Victoria Azarenka became the oldest woman in the Open Era to win a grand slam main-draw match with a 6-0 6-0 scoreline (surpassing the previous record held by Venus Williams at Wimbledon in 2015) as she downed Yanina Wickmayer.

Only Maria Sharapova and Kim Clijsters (six each) have won more women's singles major matches with a 6-0 6-0 scoreline than Azarenka (five) since 2000.

Data Debrief: Young guns

In the past 40 years, only two players have claimed more wins than Andreeva (eight) from their first 10 singles matches at Roland-Garros – Monica Seles and Iga Swiatek (both 9-1).

At the age of 18 years and 26 days, Andreeva is now the youngest woman to win a singles match at Roland-Garros as a WTA top-10 player since Serena Williams (17 years and 240 days) in 1999.

Gauff, meanwhile, is the youngest woman to win the opening match in all of their first six appearances at Roland-Garros since Martina Hingis (1999-2005).

She is also the youngest American woman to claim more than 20 singles wins at Roland-Garros in the Open Era.
