Cobolli storms into Acapulco semis in quest for third ATP Tour title
Flavio Cobolli booked his spot in the semi-finals of the Mexican Open with a straight-sets victory over Wu Yibing.
The Italian, who is the highest-ranked player left in the tournament, won 7-6 (7-4) 6-1 in Acapulco to set up a last-four clash with Miomir Kecmanovic, who knocked out first seed Alexander Zverev in the last 16.
Both players made a strong start on serve as neither conceded a break point until the 12th game, when Cobolli saved two on his way to forcing a tie-break in the first.
Despite going 3-1 to start the tie-break, the fifth seed then won six of the next seven points to snatch the opening set.
And Cobolli carried that momentum into the second, breaking Wu's serve twice on his way to victory, which he clinched with his first match point.
On the other side of the draw, Brandon Nakashima qualified for his second tour semi-final of the season after defeating Valentin Vacherot 2-6 6-2 6-3 in Mexico.
The American will face compatriot Frances Tiafoe in the last four following the latter's 6-3 6-4 win over Mattia Bellucci.

Data Debrief: Cobolli holds his nerve
Although it was a routine win in the end for Cobolli, who fired in 10 aces to Wu's one, the Italian did make things harder than they had to be for himself.
Cobolli made just 49% of his first serves, but won 83% of such points while also saving all eight break points he faced in the match.
