Daniil Medvedev was at his dominant best as he defeated Juncheng Shang in straight sets at the Dubai Tennis Championships.

After also defeating Shang at last week's Qatar Open, Medvedev repeated the trick with a 6-1 6-3 win in just 67 minutes to set up a last 16 clash with Stan Wawrinka.

Medvedev converted two of his first three break points to race into a 5-0 lead in the first, though Shang squandered multiple chances to level the opening set.

The 21-year-old then failed to capitalise on two break points in the third game and one in the fifth as Medvedev eventually clinched the early advantage on serve.

And the third seed continued his clinical performance in the second, converting both of his break point opportunities as he reeled off the last four games to seal victory.

Elsewhere, second seed Alexander Bublik also qualified for the round of 16, defeating Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets.

Bublik won 6-3 6-4 and will face either Tallon Griekspoor or qualifier Otto Virtanen in the next round.

Data Debrief: Medvedev relentless against Shang

It was a brilliant all-round performance from Medvedev, who fired in 10 aces to Zhang's 0 in the encounter.

He also won 80.6% of his first-serve points (29/36) and converted four of his five break points as he will hope to build on this display when he faces Wawrinka.
