Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open as he continues to struggle with a persistent wrist injury.
The 23-year-old has been out of action since April 14, when he picked up the injury in a win over Otta Virtanen in Barcelona.
Alcaraz started the year by completing a career Grand Slam after winning the Australian Open, but he has since missed the French Open, a title he won in 2025, and Wimbledon.
The Spaniard holds a record of 22-3 this season, most recently losing to Jannik Sinner in the Monte-Carlo final, but he is now likely to drop to third in the ATP rankings as Alexander Zverev climbs the standings.

The Cincinnati Open main draw starts next week, though Alcaraz will be unable to defend his title.
Alcaraz's participation at the US Open, which starts on August 30, is also now in doubt.
