Las Vegas Aces’ A’ja Wilson and the Phoenix Mercury’s Alyssa Thomas are excited for the opportunity to go head-to-head once again in the WNBA Finals.

The two stars faced off in the 2022 showpiece, when Thomas represented the Connecticut Sun, but Wilson’s Aces won the title in a sweep.

This will be MVP Wilson’s fourth WNBA Finals in six years with the Aces after they defeated the Indiana Fever in the semi-finals.

When asked about her upcoming finals rematch with Thomas, Wilson was excited about the opportunity to face one of the best in the league.

“It's always fun competing against [Thomas],” Wilson said.

“It helps me elevate myself, whether it's defensive schemes, [managing] personnel, or just taking everything to another level every game. We're going to play our best basketball.

“The way she sees the game, her vision and the way she gets it to her teammates, it's something that she adds and brings to this game to that position that I don't see every night.”

Thomas added: “[A'ja is] the ultimate competitor. She's doing a lot of things that a lot of players could never do. Her resume speaks for itself.

“I think when you have players like that, it constantly makes you want to evolve and make your game better. It elevates my game in a way. Each and every year, I try to come back and bring more.”

When the pair faced off in 2022, Thomas was the most effective defender against Wilson in the finals.

According to ESPN insights, Thomas held Wilson to 40% shooting as the primary defender, while the Aces star shot 59% against all other defenders.
