Verstappen piles more pressure on McLaren with dominant Austin victory
Max Verstappen capped a perfect weekend at the United States Grand Prix by storming to victory over title rivals Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in Sunday's race.
Having won the sprint, Verstappen led from start to finish in Austin to close the gap to championship leader Piastri to 40 points, with the Australian coming home in fifth.
Norris was able to overcome a race-long fight with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc to finish in second, also cutting the gap with his McLaren team-mate to just 14 points.
The Briton, who started on the front row with Verstappen, dropped a place on the first corner of the first lap to Leclerc, who was the only driver in the top 10 to start on soft tyres.
Norris eventually got past Leclerc before the latter pitted for the medium tyres on lap 22, with the McLaren driver staying out for a further 10 laps and falling behind his rival again.
Verstappen had already established a commanding lead and was able to come through his pit-stop untroubled, cantering to his third win in four races and fifth of the season.
And with five laps remaining, Norris, who had complained about his tyres and the possibility of overtaking Leclerc, rounded the Monegasque to claim his 15th podium of 2025.

Elsewhere, Lewis Hamilton survived a late scare after struggling with a suspected puncture, but pressure from Piastri on the final lap came too late as he crossed in fourth.
Singapore Grand Prix winner George Russell took sixth, while a positive day for Red Bull ended with Yuki Tsunoda taking the chequered flag in seventh.
Sauber's Nico Hulkenberg, Haas' Oliver Bearman and Fernando Alonso rounded out the top 10, with the Formula One calendar arriving in Mexico next weekend.
Data Debrief: Verstappen's late title charge continues to gather pace
Piastri and Norris have always refused to discount Verstappen's chances of winning a fifth consecutive Drivers' Championship title this season, and he laid down a statement of his intentions heading into the final five races of 2025 here.
Indeed, Verstappen's triumph was the 122nd podium of his career, putting him level with Sebastian Vettel as the third-most in the history of the competition, behind only Hamilton (202) and Michael Schumacher (155).
The Dutchman has also now achieved at least ten top-three finishes in each of his last five campaigns in F1, and he will be keen to add to this year's total as he continues to pile the pressure on McLaren.
