Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix: Antonelli still has questions to answer despite dominant lead
Despite winning each of the last five Formula One races, Kimi Antonelli believes he still has a lot to prove ahead of the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.
Antonelli currently holds a 66-point lead at the top of the Drivers' Championship, sitting above Lewis Hamilton, having won five of the six Grands Prix so far.
It has been a stellar season for the youngster so far, as he had never before won a race in F1; his previous best result had been a second-place finish at the Sao Paolo Grand Prix last year.
Antonelli struggled in the European swing of the calendar in 2025, recording four retirements and getting just two top-10 finishes (10th in Hungary and ninth in Italy, respectively).
Despite his dominance this time around, Antonelli is not getting too far ahead of himself, as he aims to continue improving each weekend.
"There are questions that still need to be answered on my side," he said.
"How much further I can go in a short period of time, how much I can push myself even further and how much I can grow, and how big is the potential?
"Last year, I would doubt a lot myself, especially during that difficult period in Europe.
"This year it's a different story, and you mature a lot after one year in F1, not only as a driver but also as a person.

"Last year, during the difficult period, I got to know myself better. Considering how bad it was in the moment, I am very grateful it happened because it made me grow a lot and taught me a lot about myself.
"This year I haven't been questioning or doubting myself."
At the start of the season, Antonelli's team-mate George Russell had been the favourite to clinch the title, but he has since struggled to match his impressive opening-weekend win, slipping 68 points behind the leader.
Antonelli, though, has not looked weighed down by the pressure of leading the standings as he continues to go from strength to strength, and he said he is not focusing on the championship race.
"I am not really worrying about it," he added.
"Of course, I know the opportunity that is on the table, and of course, I want to make the best out of it.
"But at the same time, I don't want to drive or race thinking about that.
"I want to really focus on the process and what I have to do and enjoy as much as possible the weekend and drive as fast as possible, and then we will see where we end up at the end of the year."
DRIVERS TO WATCH
Kimi Antonelli – Mercedes
Antonelli has secured four pole positions in F1, all of them during the 2026 season. He now has the opportunity to become the 56th driver in the sport's history to record five or more poles.
One more would also see the 19-year-old draw level with Giuseppe Farina as the Italian driver with the third-most poles in the history of the sport.
Antonelli has recorded five victories during his F1 career, winning from each of the four pole positions he has secured. Among drivers with four or more poles converted into victories, no one else holds a 100% record besides the Italian.

Lando Norris – McLaren
Lando Norris has recorded 16 retirements during his F1 career, two of them coming in 2026 (Canada and Monaco) — as many as across the entirety of the previous campaign (Canada and the Netherlands).
This season marks the first time he has retired from two consecutive F1 Grands Prix.
He will be determined to do better on a milestone weekend for McLaren, though. They will contest their 1,000th F1 Grand Prix. They are only the second constructor in the history of the sport to reach this milestone, after Ferrari.
