Victor Wembanyama believes the San Antonio Spurs can "win everything" following the Game 1 victory in the Western Conference finals.

The Spurs battled to a thrilling double overtime win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday, prevailing 122-115 at PayCom Center.

Wembanyama produced an incredible display on the road, recording 41 points, 24 rebounds, three blocks, three assists and one steal.

The Frenchman joins Wilt Chamberlain as the only players to record 40+ points and 20+ rebounds in their Conference finals debut, and David Robinson as the only players in Spurs franchise history to record such figures in a postseason game.

He is also the second NBA player aged 22 or younger with 40+ points and 20+ rebounds in a play-off game, after Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in Game 5 of the 1970 Eastern Conference semi-finals.

Dylan Harper also impressed for the Spurs, recording 24 points, 11 rebounds, seven steals and six assists.

Harper scored the most points by a rookie in their first Conference finals game since Andrew Toney (26) in April 1981.

He also became the third rookie since the 1973–74 season (the first season steals were officially recorded) to record 7+ steals in a postseason game, and the first to do so in a Conference finals game.

Wembanyama insisted the Spurs still need to gain valuable experience, but believes they are on the path to success in San Antonio.

"The message would be that we as a team are ready to go into any environment, any place against anybody," Wembanyama said when asked what message their win would send to everyone.

"Even though we've still got a lot to learn, our effort should be above everybody else's. We were relentless.

"A game like this is the best way to get experience. We played five quarters. So, we're learning, and by the time we get the experience, we'll compensate with our effort.

"We want to win everything, and we have the chance [because we] have people above us in the organisation that know how to do that.

"So far, it looks like they've put the right people together to give us a chance. Right now, we've got a chance."
