Spoelstra expected to be US Olympic coach
The United States men's basketball team is expected to be led by Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra when they take the court for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
Spoelstra and USA Basketball are reportedly working to finalise an agreement that would put the two-time NBA champion head coach in charge of the United States' bid to capture a sixth consecutive gold medal at the Olympics.
Former Duke University coach Mike Krzyzewski led the Americans to the gold in Beijing in 2008, London in 2012 and Rio in 2016 before all-time NBA coaching wins leader Gregg Popovich and the United States took home the gold at the 2020 Games in Tokyo.
Steve Kerr of the Golden State Warriors then coached the Americans to the gold medal in the last Summer Olympics in 2024 in Paris, with Spoelstra serving as an assistant coach.

Spoelstra ranks 17th in NBA history with 787 coaching victories during the regular season – all since taking over in Miami in 2008 – and is fifth all-time with 110 play-off wins.
The 54-year-old Spoelstra has led Miami to the NBA Finals six times and won back-to-back titles in 2011 and 2012.
