Jannik Sinner advanced to the fourth round of the Miami Open by defeating Corentin Moutet on Monday, making history along the way as he racked up 26 consecutive sets won at Masters 1000 level.

Novak Djokovic previously held the record with 24, but having equalled that mark in the second round, Sinner clinched it outright with a commanding 6-1 6-4 success.

Sinner only needed one hour and 11 minutes to complete his victory, having dominated on serve from the very first game.

The Italian only gave up four points on his own serve throughout the first set, whereas Moutet was only able to hold on one occasion.

Moutet stuck with Sinner for longer in the second set, but after the world number two broke at the end of a marathon fifth game, he had no problem seeing the victory through.

Sinner will face Alex Michelsen in the fourth round, while third seed Alexander Zverev will take on Quentin Halys after overcoming a real scare to defeat Marin Cilic 6-2 5-7 6-4.

There will be no place in the last 16 for Daniil Medvedev, though, after he was beaten 6-0 4-6 7-5 by Francisco Cerundolo on Monday.

And 2025 Miami champion Jakub Mensik is also out after Frances Tiafoe beat him 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 7-6 (13-11) in a thriller, with this only the second ATP Masters 1000 event since 1990 to see two Americans eliminate the defending champion and the world number one, following Sebastian Korda's victory over Carlos Alcaraz.

Data Debrief: Sinner's dominant run keeps rolling

By winning 26 consecutive sets in ATP Masters 1000 matches, Sinner has also extended his own record for the most straight-sets victories in a row in the format, reaching 13.

And, having surpassed Alcaraz and equalled Roger Federer, Sinner (77.9%, 102-29) now trails only two players (minimum 20 matches) for win rate at ATP Masters 1000 events since 1990 – Rafael Nadal and Djokovic.
