Kamil Majchrzak earned another major scalp in the Rosmalen Grass Court Championships, knocking out Daniil Medvedev to reach his maiden ATP Tour final.

Majchrzak had already beaten top seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarter-finals and followed that up with a 7-6 (7-4) 6-1 victory in 89 minutes.

Medvedev was playing his second match of the day, having battled past Marin Cilic 6-2 3-6 6-1, with his double-header eventually taking its toll.

The pair were evenly matched in the opening stages, but Medvedev had to hold off a break that would have secured Majchrzak the first set in the 10th game.

The Pole got an important hold himself in the following game and then eventually converted his third set point to take the lead.

It was a much smoother second set for Majchrzak – after Medvedev served to take a 1-0 lead, he failed to win another game, with his opponent reeling them off in quick succession, eventually getting over the line on his second attempt.

Majchrzak will face Alex De Minaur in the final on Sunday.

Majchrzak on the verge of milestone victory

Medvedev is a former world number one and a previous finalist at Rosmalen, but he had no answers to Majchrzak in the second set.

Majchrzak is just the sixth Polish man to reach a tour-level championship match in the Open Era and is looking to lift his first trophy on the ATP Tour.

But that is not the only thing on the line.

The world number 76 has already risen 23 spots in the ATP rankings and would break into the top 50 for the first time if he beats De Minaur to the trophy.
