Diana Shnaider earned a shock straight-sets win over Jessica Pegula to set up a meeting with Iga Swiatek in the Canadian Open quarter-finals.

Pegula had her chances to ensure the match went a different way, but she could not take them as Shnaider came out on top in a 6-3 6-3 win in 74 minutes.

The pair were evenly matched in the first set, and in the fifth game, Pegula had the chance to go a break up, but failed to take her chance.

Shnaider held, setting her up to take a 1-0 lead in the match as she rounded out the opening set with a three-game winning streak.

Pegula failed to convert two more break points at the start of the second set, though she responded with an immediate break after Shnaider got the advantage.

The American then held off three break points to take a 3-2 lead, but that was the last time she got on the board, as Shnaider reeled off the final four games, converting her second match-point attempt.

Shnaider will now face Iga Swiatek for the chance to play in the semi-finals.

Canadian Open continues to be a favourite of Shnaider

Shnaider has claimed seven main draw wins at the Canadian Open (all in Toronto), equalling her highest tally at a single WTA-level event (equalling Ningbo and Roland Garros).

And two of her three career top-10 wins have been in Toronto (2024 vs Coco Gauff and 2026 vs Pegula).

Pegula struggled on serve; despite winning 70% of her first-serve points (26/37), she won just 32% on second serve (6/19), and saved just three of the seven break points she faced.

She had won all four of her previous career meetings against Shnaider, but in their third meeting of 2026, the Ukrainian finally ended that run.
