Alexander Zverev helped Germany qualify for the Final 8 of the Davis Cup after he defeated Dino Prizmic to secure a comfortable 3-1 victory against Croatia. 

Zverev, playing in his first tournament since winning the US Open, followed up his straight-sets victory over Matej Dodig on Saturday with another 6-2 6-4 win 24 hours later. 

The day started poorly for Germany, with Prizmic wiping out their advantage after beating Daniel Altmaier 6-4 6-3, but Tim Puetz and Kevin Krawietz were on top form. 

Puetz and Krawietz, who reached the doubles final at Flushing Meadows earlier this month, got the better of Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic with a 7-5 6-2 victory. 

That left it to Zverev to wrap up the tie and book Germany's ticket to Bologna, and the world number two duly obliged as he swept aside Prizmic in one hour and 15 minutes. 

Austria, Canada, South Korea ⁠and Czechia all qualified on Saturday, and they will be joined by Great Britain and Spain after their respective victories on Sunday.

Spain were without Carlos Alcaraz, but that did not affect them as they eased past Chile 3-0, with Rafael Jodar impressing on his debut in the competition. 

Jodar wasted little time in securing a 6-0 6-2 win against Cristian Garin, which was followed up by Daniel Merida's 5-7 6-3 6-3 victory over Alejandro Tabilo. 

That teed up Pedro Martinez and Jaume Munar to secure the tie in Sunday's doubles, and they did just that with a rapid 6-0 6-3 win against Tabilo and Tomas Barrios Vera. 

Great Britain were also missing some big hitters in Jack Draper and Cameron Norrie, but like Spain, they reached the Final 8 for the first time since 2023 by beating Ecuador. 

Toby Samuel and Wimbledon semi-finalist Arthur Fery had done the damage on Saturday. Samuel came from behind to beat Andres Andrade 4-6 6-4 6-1.

Fery, meanwhile, overcame a difficult first set against Alvaro Guillen Meza to win 7-5 6-0, allowing Henry Patten and Neal Skupski to wrap up a 4-0 victory thanks to a 6-3 6-4 triumph against Gonzalo Escobar and Diego Hidalgo.
