Coco Gauff praised Elena Rybakina's ability to keep her emotions in check during their US Open semi-final contest.

Rybakina came from a set down to book her place in the final at Flushing Meadows for the first time, while denying Gauff a second appearance in the championship match at her home slam.

The American was roared on by the buoyant fans inside Arthur Ashe Stadium, though the partisan crowd did not appear to affect the Kazakhstani's performance.

Rybakina kept her cool as the pressure intensified, gaining the crucial break in the final game to secure victory.

"I think Elena is probably the most – not nonchalant because she's not nonchalant – but [she shows] just no reaction ever," Gauff told reporters.

"I'm sure it may appear that way, but we're all feeling nerves. How much of that she lets get to her, we don't know. I think that's the strength of her, you can never see what she's feeling.

"But for sure, she's human, so she's feeling nerves and all the things we all feel. She's dealt with this on more than one occasion. She has the experience."

New world number one Rybakina will take on outgoing top dog Aryna Sabalenka in a repeat of their Australian Open final showdown earlier this year, which the Kazakh won.

And Rybakina is fully aware of what to expect from an opponent appearing in an eighth successive championship match at a hard-court major.

"We've played many times, we've also practised before," Rybakina said. "She's a very aggressive player. It's very difficult to play against her, mentally and physically. She has a big game and a big serve.

"I will need to bring all my energy and my best serve, and make the right decisions in the right moments.

"Most of the time, the scores are tight and that's where the decision makes a difference. I will try my best and give it my all."
