Rybakina reaches Miami semis after stunning Pegula with comeback
Elena Rybakina got the better of Jessica Pegula once again as she came from behind to reach the Miami Open semi-finals.
Pegula looked to have shrugged off her recent hoodoo against Rybakina, but the Australian Open champion recovered brilliantly from a slow start to win 2-6 6-3 6-4 in two hours and 15 minutes.
The American stormed into a 4-0 lead, and though Rybakina managed to find her footing, it was not soon enough to stop Pegula from taking the first set.
Rybakina made a much better start to the second but had to hold off four break points across her first three service games. After that, she got the next break, setting her on course to force a decider.
Pegula wavered somewhat in the third set, losing her serve in the first game and failing to recover from there.
Rybakina stayed in control, and though she did not convert any of the next three break points she forced, she stayed on course to convert her first match point and book her place in the final four.
Grit and determination

Data Debrief: Rybakina has Pegula's number
Rybakina had lost three of her first four meetings with Pegula in 2022 and 2023, but since then, she has won each of her last five, all in the last seven months.
The Kazakhstani has a 13th career WTA-1000 semi-final, surpassing Li Na (12) for the outright-most of any player representing an Asian country, since the format's introduction in 2009.
And since 2009, Rybakina is the third player to reach the semi-final at both Indian Wells and Miami in multiple seasons, after Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka.
