Raptors, head coach Rajakovic agree to extension
The Toronto Raptors and head coach Darko Rajakovic agreed to a multiyear contract extension on Thursday, two days after the team brought back Kawhi Leonard in a blockbuster trade.
Rajakovic took over in June 2023 after Toronto fired Nick Nurse, who led the Raptors to their only NBA championship in 2019.
The 47-year-old Serbian went 55-109 in his first two campaigns with the Raptors before guiding Toronto to the play-offs for the first time since 2022 last season.
The Raptors went 46-36 to earn the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference and were eliminated by the Cleveland Cavaliers in seven games in the first round of the play-offs.
Toronto agreed to acquire Leonard from the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday, bringing the seven-time All-Star back to the franchise after he was named NBA Finals MVP in 2019 while leading the Raptors to the title.
