Kings center Sabonis to miss at least a month with left knee injury
The reeling Sacramento Kings will be without star center Domantas Sabonis for at least the next month while he recovers from a meniscus tear in his left knee, the team announced Thursday night.
Sabonis was injured Sunday in a 123-110 loss at San Antonio. The partial tear was discovered during an MRI, and the team said the 6-foot-11 Sabonis will be re-evaluated in three to four weeks.
"Not happy. Feel for him obviously," Kings coach Doug Christie said. "We need the big fellow, but it's the nature of what we do, and we know that when we sign up. It's unfortunate. Love him and hopes he gets well soon."
Sabonis ranks third on the team in scoring (17.2) and ranks fourth in the NBA in rebounding (12.3). He has led the league in rebounding in each of his three full seasons with the Kings.
Sacramento entered Thursday with a 3-12 record and is mired in a seven-game losing streak, all by double digits.
Drew Eubanks and Precious Achiuwa will likely see increased playing time during Sabonis’ absence.
