'I appreciate it immensely' – Reeve thrilled to celebrate WNBA record with Lynx players
Cheryl Reeve appreciates the Minnesota Lynx's excitement to celebrate her achievement after she broke the WNBA regular-season win record on Wednesday.
The Lynx needed a strong fourth quarter to end their two-game losing streak and beat last-place Connecticut Sun 86-80.
Reeve has now overtaken Mike Thibault for the most wins as a WNBA head coach, with this her 380th victory in the regular season.
She equalled Thibault's record on June 28 with an 85-77 win at Dallas Wings, but the Lynx then lost two games on the bounce for the first time this season.
While Reeve said she was only focused on getting her team back to winning ways, the Minnesota players were thrilled to see their coach's achievement.
"I appreciate it immensely," Reeve said postgame. "I just wanted to win the game.
"I just don't think this way. I appreciate how much it meant to the players to celebrate the moment.
"So many people that have been on this journey with me for so long, even the new ones, to share it with them was incredibly meaningful."
A new all-time leader

Reeve was hired by the Lynx in 2010 and is the longest continuously tenured coach in WNBA history.
She has led Minnesota to each of their four WNBA titles (2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017), as well as reaching the Finals a further three times (2012, 2016, 2024).
Before Wednesday, she already boasted the most total wins, including postseason, of any coach in league history, with that tally now sitting at 431.
Reeve has recently been inducted into the Hall of Fame, and she acknowledged that the last few weeks have given her a chance to reflect on what she has been able to achieve with the Lynx.
"It feels like yesterday, it was 2010, and we were trying to be a successful team," she said.
"It really starts to hit you when you really start to go through each year. I don't know – you never dream it's going to happen. I set out to just try to take it day by day and win games.
"What I feel is an overwhelming sense of feeling blessed for all the people that let me be me, believed in what we were doing and found a way to be successful, no matter what."
