Durant 'honoured and grateful' after passing Chamberlain on all-time NBA scoring list
Kevin Durant was "honoured and grateful" after surpassing NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain to go seventh in the league's all-time scoring charts.
Durant had 30 points and 12 rebounds in the Houston Rockets' 111-105 defeat to the Portland Trail Blazers, though there was a milestone for the 37-year-old to celebrate.
When Durant made a jumper with just under eight minutes remaining in the third quarter, he climbed another place in the overall point-scoring list.
He now has 31,445 points to his name, edging clear of Chamberlain, who put up 31,419 throughout a stellar career between 1959 and 1973.
Dirk Nowitzki, on 31,560, is the next player Durant can look to overhaul, with the Houston man averaging 25.7 points per game this season.
Speaking after the game, Durant said: "To be among the greats is always an honour. Wilt is somebody I studied and tried to look up to as much as I could.
"Like I always say, he set a standard for NBA players and I'm grateful to reach that, and I'm inspired by what he produced for the game of basketball.
"These milestones always have me reflecting on the people that helped me get to this point, the journey that I've been through, the close calls and the things that could have gone south.
"So to be here, I'm very, very grateful, and Portland is such a classy, classy city for recognising me in that moment and honouring me."

Fans at Portland's Moda Center greeted the announcement of Durant's achievement with a warm round of applause, while the Trail Blazers' coach Tiago Splitter embraced him.
Recalling the start of his playing career with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Splitter said: "A young Kevin Durant, scoring 30 every night... he just keeps doing that, which is amazing,
"At his age, of course, he's probably at the end of his career, but just doing that every night is just impressive."
