Luka Doncic continued his strong start to the NBA season with a 49-point display against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

He also contributed with 11 rebounds and eight assists, while shooting 61% from the field, as the Los Angeles Lakers won 128-110 on Friday.

After also scoring 43 points in their opening game defeat against the Golden State Warriors, Doncic broke Jerry West's 56-year franchise record of 81 points scored through the first two games of a season.

Doncic's stellar stat line saw him become the first player in NBA history to open a season with back-to-back games of 40+ points, 10+ rebounds and at least five assists.

He also became the second player in the Lakers' franchise history to record 45+ points, 10+ rebounds, five or more assists, and at least five three-point makes in a regular-season game after Kobe Bryant in December 2006.

The Lakers were knocked out by the Timberwolves in the first round of the playoffs last season, but Doncic insisted that had nothing to do with his performance.

"I just want to forget about last season," said Doncic. "I was trying to move on. I don't really think about that first-round series.

"I wish we won the first game, but obviously it's a good comeback.

“I think Minnesota is a great team. We had to do a lot to win today. But myself, I feel great. I want to win every game.”

Rui Hachimura, who scored 23 points in the win, added: "He [Doncic], of course, dominates the whole game so easily.

"And it's not some random team we played against. They're a Western Conference finals team. So this is crazy."
