Novak Djokovic triumphed over Alejandro Tabilo on his Athens Open debut to reach the quarter-finals in Greece.

Djokovic was pushed all the way in the opening set, succeeding in the tie-break, before taking the match away from Tabilo in the second to win 7-6 (7-3) 6-1.

The 24-time major champion, who has been confirmed to feature in the ATP Finals in Turin next week, had lost his two previous matches against the Chilean.

"It feels really at home, playing in Athens," said Djokovic, who has moved to the Greek capital.

"A few months ago, when I came here with my family, I was very excited because I have always loved Greece.

"Serbians love Greece, for sure. Historically, culturally, and religiously, we have a lot of things connecting us. Athens is in my heart, no question about it."

Djokovic has now reached 225 ATP Tour-level quarter-finals, while doing so across 25 different countries.

He is 28-0 this season in matches in which he won the opening set, while he thwarted Tabilo in his attempt to become the only player, after Roger Federer, to win their first three Tour-level clashes against Djokovic.
