Alexandra Eala is through to the US Open third round for the first time after storming past Oleksandra Oliynykova in straight sets on Thursday.

Eala followed up her impressive first-round victory with a 6-1 6-4 win over Oliynykova in just 64 minutes.

The 21-year-old made a brilliant start, reeling off the first four games, though she was pegged back with a break in the fifth, despite saving two break points.

Eala immediately cancelled that out, though, and then served out the first set to love.

Oliynykova defended a break point in the opening game of the second but could not hold off Eala for long as she gained the advantage.

Though the Ukrainian immediately broke back, she then could not stay on serve, and Eala then got over the line on her second match point.

Amanda Anisimova is also through to the third round after overcoming a second-set wobble to beat Lilli Tagger in three sets.

The American prevailed 6-3 3-6 6-1 in just over two hours to make it through.

And Madison Keys also got through the hard way, saving five match points on her way to beating Anna Bondar.

The 22nd seed came from 5-2 down in the third set to win 5-7 6-4 7-6 (10-5) in a marathon three-hour match, in which she reeled off the final six points in the tie-break without reply.

Eala turns on the style

Last time Eala met Oliynykova, she lost a marathon three-setter at the Strasbourg Open, but she put that right at Flushing Meadows.

Her fast start in particular set the tone as she won nine points in a row from the beginning, while she broke serve five times in the victory.

She also found success at the net, winning 11 of her 14 points coming forward.

And she was helped by Oliynykova's struggles on serve as the Ukrainian landed just half of her first serves in the match (16/32).

Eala's best result at a grand slam so far came at Wimbledon earlier this year, when she reached the fourth round, and if she wants to replicate that in New York, she will have to beat either Iva Jovic or Francesca Jones.
