Desmond Bane revealed that he is excited to "play some meaningful basketball" after the Orlando Magic reached the semi-finals of the NBA Cup.

The Magic beat the Miami Heat 117-118 in Orlando with Bane scoring 37 points while also registering six rebounds and five assists in the win.

Jalen Suggs and Paolo Banchero contributed with 20 and 18 points, respectively, as the Magic will now prepare for a semi-final clash against the New York Knicks.

Orlando have already beaten the Knicks twice this season, but also lost to their upcoming opponents earlier this month.

Bane received a $35,000 fine after that game for throwing the ball at the Knicks' OG Anunoby, and is relishing the chance to play another competitive match at this point of the campaign.

"I just lost $35,000, so I have got to go get it back somehow," joked Bane after their win over the Heat.

"I'm excited, great opportunity for us to play some meaningful basketball early in the season."

Bane made a big impact early in the fourth quarter, making shots from beyond the arc either side of a three-point play in the opening three minutes of the frame.

Indeed, 25 of Bane's 37 points came in the second half as the Magic took the game away from the Heat.

Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra praised Bane for his ability to score at multiple levels on the court.

Spoelstra said: "He [Bane] made some tough shots there in the fourth quarter, but he got some open looks, and then he started to drive, really lower his shoulder and get to the rim, made some tough ones there, drew some fouls.

"You know, he had a very good game and that's why you want to take away some of the open looks early on so a guy doesn't get into a great rhythm."
