Hasan Mahmud was the star of the show for Bangladesh as they dominated day one of the first Test against Australia.

Australia were bowled out for 198 in 53 overs as Mahmud ended with career-best figures of 6-55, while the tourists were also 96-1 at stumps.

Jake Weatherald (23) was the first to fall to Mahmud, before fellow opener Travis Head (22) quickly followed.

Ebadot Hossain (2-39) removed Marnus Labuschagne (1), while Taskin Ahmed (2-55) dismissed Cameron Green (12) and Beau Webster (12) as the hosts found themselves in all sorts of trouble in Darwin.

Mahmud then came back into the attack and got the better of Pat Cummins (9) and Mitchell Starc (1), before taking the crucial wicket of Steve Smith (71), who tried to save face for Australia.

Starc (1-28) managed to provide some joy with the ball as he sent Shadman Islam back to the stands for just 20, though Tanzid Hasan (32 not out) and Mominul Haque (35 not out) stood strong at the crease.

Bangladesh off to a dream start on Test return in Australia

This is Bangladesh's first Test match in Australia in 23 years, and they could not have dreamt of a better start Down Under.

Along with Mahmud's six wickets, Taskin's and Ebadot's contributions also saw Bangladesh's pace bowlers take all 10 wickets in an innings for just the second time in their Test history.

The match is far from over, however, with Australia's bowling attack more than capable of restricting Bangladesh's batters on day two.

Starc's wicket of Islam saw him take the outright lead for most Test wickets by a left-arm bowler (434), while he also moved level with Kapil Dev for scalps in the longest format.
