Antetokounmpo committed to Bucks for now, admits he could seek future trade
Giannis Antetokounmpo remains committed to the Milwaukee Bucks amid rumours of a trade to the New York Knicks, though he admits he could change his mind in the future.
Earlier this week, reports from ESPN suggested the Bucks had engaged in talks about trading the two-time NBA MVP to the Knicks during the offseason.
That came after Milwaukee's 2024-25 season ended with a third straight first-round playoff exit, with the Bucks losing 4-1 to the Indiana Pacers.
Antetokounmpo, who led Milwaukee to their second NBA Championship in 2021, has two more seasons remaining before he could opt out and become a free agent.
Next October, he will become eligible for a four-year, $275m maximum extension through the 2030-31 season, though he has repeatedly suggested his main concern is being on a team with a chance of winning the championship.
Last month, Antetokounmpo said at a team media day: "I think it's a disservice to basketball to not want to compete at a high level, to want your season to end in April."
But at least for the time being, he remains dedicated to helping Milwaukee capture another championship.
"I've said this many times, I want to be in a situation where I can win. I believe in this team. I believe in my team-mates," Antetokounmpo said on Wednesday.
"I'm here to lead this team to wherever we can go. It's definitely going to be hard. We're going to take it day by day, but I'm here. All the extra stuff does not matter.
"I've communicated with my team-mates, communicated with the people I respect and love, that the moment I step on this court or in this facility, and I wear this jersey, the rest does not matter."

The Bucks face the Detroit Pistons in their second preseason game on Thursday, with further warm-ups against the Chicago Bulls and Oklahoma City Thunder to follow.
Their 2025-26 NBA season opener is against the Washington Wizards on Wednesday, October 22, and Antetokounmpo will be monitoring their competitiveness closely.
He admits he is constantly assessing his future, adding: "I'm locked into whatever I have in front of me. Now, if in six or seven months I change my mind, I think that's human, too.
"It's temptation. That starts when the season ends until the season begins. There's going to be a lot of people that are going to approach me or approach my agent and they're going to say this is a possibility, or that's a possibility...
"But at the end of the day, ultimately, I'm going to make a decision. My decision today is that I'm here and I'm committed to this team."
