Two-time Formula One champion Fernando Alonso will race for a record-extending 24th campaign after extending his contract with Aston Martin.

Alonso will be part of their drivers' line-up until at least the end of 2027, alongside Lance Stroll, whose own extended deal was also confirmed.

The Spaniard was the world champion in 2005 and 2006, and he will continue his racing career past his 46th birthday – which is in July next year – having started as a 19-year-old in 2001.

During his career, Alonso has raced in 440 Grands Prix, winning 32 of those.

And the 45-year-old, who joined Aston Martin from Alpine in 2023, says his hunger for competing has not yet disappeared, despite his heavy criticism of F1's current engine rules.

"I'm very happy to sign a new contract with the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One team," said Alonso.

Aston Martin have struggled under F1's new technical regulations in 2026, which has been their first as Honda's works engine partners and with Adrian Newey designing their car.

They have scored just three points in 15 races so far, with Alonso scoring all of those – his best finish was ninth at the Dutch Grand Prix.
