Max Verstappen came out on top in a drama-filled sprint race ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix.

Verstappen, who won his first race of the season in Malaysia last weekend, clinched pole position for the sprint in qualifying on Friday.

And the Dutchman translated that into a sprint-race victory, crossing the chequered flag just under three seconds ahead of second-place Lewis Hamilton.

There was plenty of drama, however, with the sprint delayed by heavy rain and, when it did get going, George Russell claimed an early lead.

However, Russell then crashed out at the end of the first lap, enabling Verstappen to cruise to victory, with Hamilton's Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc placing third.

Yet there was more chaos at the end, with Lando Norris attempting to get ahead of his McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri.

Norris' front tyre made contact with Piastri's car, and while the world champion spun and ended up finishing eighth, Piastri hit the wall and finished outside of the points.

That was good news for Formula One championship leader Kimi Antonelli, who capitalised on the McLaren mistake and moved up into fourth place.
