The Denver Nuggets received some good news for a change, with two starters returning from extended injury absences to face the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday.

Forward Aaron Gordon and swing man Christian Braun were both cleared to return Sunday, as Denver prepares for a stretch of at least four weeks without three-time league MVP Nikola Jokić.

Gordon had been out since Nov. 21 with a strained right hamstring, while Bruan had been out since Nov. 12 due to a sprained left ankle.

Nuggets coach David Adelman had previously said Gordon and Bruan would warm up before Sunday afternoon’s game, with the team eventually declaring them available.

“We’ve had a good 48 hours, those two guys. Thank God,” Adelman said. “We could use the bodies.”

Jokic and Jamal Murray had kept the Nuggets in a top-four spot in the Western Conference despite the team’s rash of injuries, but Jokić himself went down last week with a bone bruise on his knee.

Starting forward Cameron Johnson and veteran center Jonas Valanciunas will remain out for Sunday’s game.

The Nuggets entered play on Sunday clinging to third in the West at 23-11 but were just three games ahead of the Phoenix Suns, who were slotted seventh.

Denver is 1-1 since Jokić hyperextended his knee and could rely heavily on Gordon and Braun while its franchise cornerstone is sidelined.

Gordon has averaged 18.8 points this season and is shooting 44.4% from 3-point range, both on pace for career highs, while adding 5.9 rebounds per game.

Braun started the season in a long-range shooting slump but is averaging 11.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists.
